I swam a mile this morning in 45 minutes.

I was just shy of a mile on Tuesday morning... I swam 1600 yards, but today I made the full 1760. I was even able to get out of the pool under my own power. I hope in the next five weeks to improve my speed. Last year, the best time in my age category was just over 22 minutes. I don't think it's too likely that I will get anywhere close to that, but I do think I can do a lot better than 45 minutes.

It's pretty hard on the system to do the whole mile, so I think I will try and do a full mile 2-3 times per week (MWF, the life guard has to stay after anyway for the water aerobics class), and the other two days I will refocus on basic conditioning and strength training... I need to torture myself with the kickboard some: I'm doing a mile almost exclusively with my arms. I've always been a sort of lazy kicker.

I am a little concerned about making the pool -> open water transition, but I think building basic strength and endurance has to help until the sound gets warm enough to practice there.


Getting away from that... Bar prep is looking like a total beast. We're going to the Daily Life Schola tomorrow, but I'm not sure how long we will stay, since [livejournal.com profile] kuzu_no_ha hurt herself at Boot Camp today. I'm totally exhausted from being up early to swim, and we have to get up early tomorrow to get to the event on time.

Ah well. I need to watch almost two hours of BarBri videos on Sunday. Blech.
