Sep. 12th, 2002 11:41 pmWell, I just got back from fighter practice. It's been almost a month since I was in armor, and I was pretty rusty already. I was about 45 minutes late to practice, and then I discovered that my kit was still in pieces from the last time I cleaned it. I got to fight about 45 minutes before I needed a long break, but it was already almost too dark to fight.
I'm sore, and I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but nothing like the practices from this summer. Some of that is that I've gotten better, but some is that the usual folks that beat on me weren't there. I fought with Thornspike the whole time, and he was taking it easy on me.
Why haven't I fought since Pennsic when I enjoy it so much? Why haven't I done anything lately?
Work, work, work, work, workworkwork...
It's like a giant trouble balloon popped in Santa Clara, CA, and I think I've worked an average of 80-100 hours per week the last few weeks. I get up in the morning and start working until all of a sudden it's late at night and I have to go to bed.
Repeat as necessary.
Unfortunately, I just can't get caught up. Every time I feel like I've fixed everything, something new crops up. The particularly dreadful thing is that it isn't even pointless make-work like most of this summer was. It's real, "we're going to suffer if I don't fix this soon", sort of stuff. You never know what is going to be the thing that blows up in your face, so you have to try and fight all the fires at once.
But, there is a bright sunny side. Our house now has a second story, and most of the roofing boards are on too. Pretty soon it's going to be weather-resistant and it should be clear sailing until it's finished. Not too much can delay it once the outside is done.
