The DSL was finally set up last night, so our only reason to do business the cable company is, at long last, eliminated. Also, for one brief shining moment, I have high-speed Internet access, no homework, and a completely free weekend!

The power outage this past week was surreal, but I live and work in unaffected areas. Various people in the energy industry told me years ago that the system was being maxed out, so I wasn't completely surprised, and I was pleased that everything (except the power company in Ohio) worked like it was supposed to.

For the record, they can put as many nuclear reactors as they want "in my backyard", I think that it the only real long term solution to the energy problem. Coal is too dirty, oil is running out, and gas is too expensive. Anyone who is totally committed to "renewable" energy sources is welcome to them, but there is just no way that wind and water will provide all that we need.

Aside from that, dams, windmills, and tidal surge are much harder on the environment than nuclear plants, but I'm sure many people would disagree with me there. That's okay, one of the nice things in this country is that everyone has the right to be wrong.
