Dreary data warehouse days...

I'm in a major holding pattern at work. Nearly 100% are moving cubes this week and next, so the influence on productivity is already taking hold. Combine that with the fact that most of my projects are on hold *anyway* for external actions (new power from the electricians, etc), I have very little real work to do.

Even the work that I have right now is "fire and forget". I start a long running-job, then come back every fifteen minutes or so to see how it's going. Since it's going to take about 12 hours, it's not too exciting.

In the meantime, I just keep reading documentation. I love to learn new things, and absorbing vendor material and third party books on stuff is fun, but I can only take so much. I've read about 1100 pages on data warehousing in the last 7 days, and I've done little else. My brain is starting to get that "full" feeling that says that I need to digest some before I'll be ready for more. Unfortunately, at least reading looks productive, digesting just looks like sleeping.

Ah well. I hope Zohra feels better soon. The colds and allergies that have been running around this week are most unpleasant.
Wow. Yet another exciting class! Yet more “critical thinking” bullshit. I’m so glad.

Don't get me wrong, so far UoP is working out really great for me... I get to take my classes at home, I never have to drive anywhere, and this is the first class that actually has an exam. I write papers and email, and meet with my team.

The downside? Almost every class is this soft "critical thinking" stuff designed to make us better thinkers. Whether by luck, or by prior education, I basically understand this concept, I don't need to spend four damn classes learning the same stuff.

Grrr.

Back to my paper on "personal perceptions".
