Just got back from Orchestra rehearsal a bit ago.

Rehearsal went well tonight, for the most part. I think we spent less than 15 minutes waiting for the strings to straighten out their bowing. Mel was in a weird mood, and everyone was pissed that the "amateur night" garage band festival was going on in the auditorium next door. Ivan was out again this week, so I got to play the first trumpet part. It's much more enjoyable than the second part, but not that much harder, really.

We started with Semper Fidelis, which is the most trumpet-intensive piece that we have, but I butchered the first half. We played it about twice as fast as last time, and the fingering is pretty difficult. However, after the second or third time, it was just "not good".

Next we worked on L'Alesienne, by Bizet. This is like one big vacation for the trumpets. We play, but it's mostly simple G's and stuff. It is a little tricky to tune, since half the movements are pitched in A and the rest in B-flat, but I've gotten pretty good at that by now. We only worked on the first movement, before our saxophone player wandered off.

Finally, we worked on the Strauss Waltzes. I enjoy them, but the transitions between the waltzes are somewhat tricky. Overall, I'd rate my performance as good. I made a few errors, but all of the solos sounded good, although a bit cracky once my lip started to give out. Aside from Anna making faces at me half way through, it was rather uneventful.

I'm not sure I'll ever get to play first again, since it's only when Ivan is away that I get the chance. I tried to make the best of it, and not disappoint everyone too much.

Not much else new: homework, homework, and more homework. I'm exhausted, really.
