Sep. 21st, 2007 08:56 amWent to fighter practice last night, and played with the polearm all night. The gauntlets are broken again. This time, it's the leather strap on the right gauntlet and the glue on the left. Now that I've been instructed on the proper way to glue the gauntlets, perhaps I will have better luck. At the end of the day, I just need to understand that I've eventually going to end up replacing every SS rivet in these gauntlets. Every time I use them another one breaks. Luckily, I'm about halfway there already.
I was really hoping to avoid driving to NJ today, by procrastinating until Monday. I knew that I had another client "penciled-in" for next week, but I hadn't heard anything. At 5:30 this morning, sleeping in and taking the wait-and-see approach seemed worth it. Now it looks like I will be at this other client next week, so I have to finish everything for the NJ guys today. Fantastic.
I guess I will make sure that the guy is there (my other self-justification for sleeping in), and then change and get on my way. I think the way down will be relatively painless, but there's no hell like heading north on I-95 on a Thursday or Friday night. Damn.
Other things, to catch up... I've been engaged in a war against knotweed. I've cleared the bulk of it from about half the yard. Every day I have to go over the whole "completed" area to pull the ones that sprang up overnight. This seems to be helping, but the rest of the yard is slow going. The melon patch is going to be particularly interesting, since the two plants will probably be married in a Gordion knot-of-despair.
I caulked the new bathtub yesterday, or perhaps I should say I caulked 90% of the bathtub. Gar. I will need more caulk to finish it, but it's definitely the best caulking job I've ever done. Hopefully I will be able to make some major progress on the bathroom against this weekend. It's been languishing for nearly two weeks without any attention.
