Major kudos are due to [livejournal.com profile] jeep_squire for helping me get the plumbing done for the hose fitting. We now have access to water from outside (squee), and we even went shopping for garden hose and sundries to celebrate.

Pipe-sweating clearly is a "knack", but I think I figured out the magic of it. In all seriousness, though, I have little desire to have to find out. I used PEX fittings for the new run, and they are sweet to work on.

Perhaps tomorrow I'll wash the cars. ;-)

If only he knew a chiv that fought silly weapons sometimes, you know like two little axes or something.

Tell me more about the PEX... which brand, what fittings, and what crimping tool? This is something I'm starting to look into for the log home.

I will check the brand name on the stuff. I used a proven method for picking all of it, it was What Lowe's Had(tm). I bought the fixed 3/4" crimping tool, since the multi-size tool was twice as much. Still, it might be worth it for you.

I also ended up buying a PEX->threaded and PEX->solder fitting for my project. Both were brass and relatively inexpensive. It probably took about as long for us to fit the threaded brass, cut the PEX, run the PEX, and crimp the PEX as it took to sweat the one solder joint.

Oh, and the threaded joints wanted to leak, but the PEX joints didn't. I think the bitch would be if you had to cut and recrimp one of the PEX joints. That looks like a fair PITA, although the crimp rings are supposedly copper, so you should be able to cut them fairly easily.
