Oct. 17th, 2006 04:51 pmSo, I received a little thing in the mail from Rep. Dargan today. He said, "If you have any questions, give me a call" so I did.
I got his voicemail, left my name and phone number, and asked him about his position on gun rights, and a ban on tasers in particular. He actually called me back, which shocked me. He claimed that he only voted for the bill in committee as a favor to his co-chair with the understanding that he would vote against it on the florr. I pointed out that a ban on "electronic defense weapons" it incongruous with the existence of pistol permits, and that really anyone authorized to carry a firearm should be someone that can be trusted with a taser. He didn't really seem to have any problems with that. We also talked a bit about the West Haven turkey and deer population; someone in his family died from complications of Lyme after being misdiagnosed.
Definitely a positive experience, and really a lot better than I expected. I also called the Republican candidate Michael Erickson. He seems fiscally conservative, but an environmental wacko. Then again, he might represent the constituency in that area. ;-) Frankly, he looks like a non-candidate really. Dargan, in my opinion, has a huge advantage in that he's endorsing a transportation plan remarkably similar to Jodi Rell's.
Interesting. I have to admit this is really the first election where I'm paying any real attention to the state reps. The last few years in PA were a real example of what happens when you don't keep an eye on those guys.
