So, not to whine, but more to record, since I will probably forget all about it in a few days. The last few days have been a spectacular example of how not to spend days off...
Apparently, sometime late last week, I ate some tainted food. Not really sure, but by Saturday, my digestive system was expressing severe discontent, rating as probably the 3rd worst of my life. I basically gave up eating on Sunday; Monday I indulged in two scrambled eggs, two slices of cheese, and a few M&Ms.
So last night, around 9:30 I was taking the trash out. Somehow, while going down the concrete stairs with about 35-40 pounds of garbage, I miscounted the stairs or missed one. The next thing I knew, I was flying through the air, but with the knowledge that my right foot was (a) still in contact with a step, and (b) in a position in that was not compatible with the momentum of the rest of my body.
This ends badly.
So just before I hit the ground, the ankle goes 'POP' and frankly hitting the concrete meant that at least I was down. It would appear that various falling practice over the years still serves me well: my clothes were filthy all along my right side, but there are not even any bruises. While laying on the ground contemplating this situation, it is fairly clear that I won't be taking the garbage down after all.
So, Zohra came out, and helped get me inside. I iced it, took some IBUs, and eventually moved upstairs to bed. Did a bit of the ever popular tapping tests to determine the likelihood of a break (I think not), and went to sleep.
This morning it is sore and stiff, but I can put weight on it. Twisting is not too good though. A damn shame that I have to drive today though. I'm thinking my motorcycle boots probably have the best ankle support.
At least I don't have to work today. I'm trying to imagine Grand Central Terminal and the five block walk to AIG, and it would not be pleasant.

Date: 2007-01-16 02:45 pm (UTC)I will take notes and make sure not to spend days off like that. Thank you for taking that hit for us.
I hope your ankle feels better soon, and remember it takes a few days to rehydrate after your digestive system goes on strike.
hugs.

Date: 2007-01-16 04:02 pm (UTC)Can't say I followed you on the ankle bit, but will keep an eye out for that happening. I agree, the walk in NY would have been most unpleasant.
Feel better!
