Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I've been behind the firewall of doom at work, and last night the laptop never came out of the bag.
The photograph is by a photographer whose work I have long enjoyed, named Oleg Volk (http://www.olegvolk.net/). In addition to be being a talented artist, he is also an advocate for the possession of firearms. He does most of the photography for a number of pro-firearm sites, such as A Human Right (http://www.a-human-right.com/) and many others. He also runs a forum called The High Road (http://www.thehighroad.org/).
So, placed in that context... In 1938, Germany enacted some of the strictest and most effective gun-control laws that the world has ever seen. Many Germans and anti-gun politicians claimed that it would make the people safer. However, placed in context of the eventual genocide of the Jewish people in that country, there is some speculation that the gun prohibition made Hitler's job easier. Some admittedly biased information on this is available through Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (http://www.jpfo.org) as a review of Gun Control: Gateway to Tyranny (http://www.jpfo.org/GCA_68.htm).
I believe that removing the rights of the citizenry to own firearms (especially military-style firearms) is antithetical to the goals of a free society. If only villains and criminals have guns, it is much easier for them to dominate the lawful citizens. I like to think that if the Jews still had possession of their guns, they would have at least been in a position to fight their murderers.
The 1938 t-shirt is available from Liberty Outlet. (http://www.libertyoutlet.com/store/bystore.html?store=3) ()
