Four Hooks
Four Hooks
These are the four hooks I made at the Blacksmithing class on August 4th, 2007. The class was taught by Bill Scheer, who is the blacksmith at Mystic.
The First Leaf
The First Leaf
Ironically, the first leaf is the better one. The vertical line is very important, and I think this one turned out pretty well.
Bad Lead Detail
Bad Lead Detail
This is the leaf on the square stock hook, I believe. Notice the horrible workmanship.

Not so good with the chisel, I guess. Wouldn't be bad as runes, though, I guess.
Curled Scrollwork
Curled Scrollwork
Next time, thinning the metal farther back will made curling it easier, and I think it would make for a nicer look as well. Still, I'm pretty pleased with this one.
Burned
Burned
I will have to cut this off tomorrow and try again. For some reason, I kept burning this piece.

Apparently, my instructor is obsessed with them. All ends must have finials (to prevent injuries), and leaves are relatively easy to make. There is a flame finial too, but I've had trouble making it.

He has oak leaves, apple leaves, all sort of leaves on his work.
