Alive! ...sortof
Aug. 6th, 2004 06:41 amI finished the cutting, drilling, assembly, and coarse sanding for the new camp bed. With the bolts tightened down and the slats installed it is sturdy as a rock. I still have to do the fine sanding, staining, and sealing, but it is still actually coming together in a real way.
After the camp table, this is the second succesful wood project of the summer. There are still several things wrong with it, of course. I'm not happy with how the head board turned out, and it's rather tricky to assemble. I also had to buy new lumber for the head and foot-boards, because I designed them 3 inches (7.62 cm) too short. Oops.
However, it looks pretty good overall. I'll probably post pictures of that and the table sometime so that you folks can see.
Otherwise... Well, work work work. The boss is out, one of my co-workers resigned, finally got my tuition reimbursement signed, and all of the usual workplace headaches. Stuff mysteriously stolen over the weekend returned just as mysteriously Tuesday evening.
Just started my next UoPhoenix class: it is all Java programming. It's almost scary how easy this program has been once I got into the IT core classes. It's not that I'm that uber-smart or anything, it is just that UoP classes are close enough to the real-world that I can leverage everything I've done in the workplace. I basically spent five years debugging compile problems in other peoples garbage (open source) C and C++ code; writing "Hello World" programs doesn't worry me, even if it's in fifteen different languages.
I've been playing a lot of EV Nova (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/) lately. It's a variant of the traditional galactic-trader game, with added combat and storyline. Mostly, I've been using it to escape the anxiety that I feel over everything that is going on at work and getting ready for Pennsic.
I hope everyone is doing well. I've definitely seen some awesome artwork recently.
