Wet Basements for Dummies (tm)
Apr. 9th, 2003 12:54 pm(In an effort to recapture the exact event, this entry contains some explicit language)
There's water in my basement again.
I went down there to throw out some junk (damaged in the *last* flood), turned on the light and...
"DAMN IT!"
I wandered over the the sump crock (sump of doom, and I don't mean that in a good way), and grab the cover. Hmm, cover is full of water. Hmm, crock is full of water.
"PIECE OF SHIT!"
I unplugged the sump, plugged it back in. No change. I unplugged the sump fromt he float switch pump, plugged it directly into the outlet. Sump activates.
"THIS FLOAT SUCKS!"
I let it run until the water level hits bottom. I plug the sump back into the float switch. As I am plugging it in, the water level is already nearly to the floor. Still nothing.
"ARGGGHHHHH! DAMN FLOAT!"
I grab the hose from the condensate pump, perhaps it has fouled the float. Nothing. I wiggle the pipe, sump activates. I wait, the water level drops, the sump turns off. I continue monitoring, it fills with water, drains again.
I pace the floor in irritation; I check the sump. Still working fine.
I check my belongings, those few things still in the basement after the last flood. All wet.
"DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!"
I go upstairs and pour myself some Pepsi, I take some Sudafed, getting a sinus headache. I look out the window, but it looks like the builder is still at lunch.
I hate sumps.
