May. 19th, 2005 06:40 amI went to fighter practice last night for the first time in far too long. That resulted in the usual results: I had a mediocre performance. I fought quite a bit with Thornspike and a new guy whose name I've alrady forgotten, and a little with Ivan (who's calmed down a lot) and Sir Wulfbrand.
Thornspike was kind enough to hit me in my right arm with every single shot that he made. He kept repeating that it was the only place he could hit me, which impiles that the rest of the defense wasn't too bad. However, a defense let gets my arm hit 10-15 times in a two hour practice is *not* going to work. The most amusing part is that he hit me there with S&S, and later on with greatsword. I think I'm just overextending my arm, and leaving it out there for him to hit it.
The new guy has a great attitude, which was contagiously affecting the other fighters, and he rated about my C game. He's only authorized in great sword, but he's working on polearm as well. Since I still fight exclusively sword and board, this leads to a lot of chase. I showed him a few things, and gave him a few tips; there are a number of things you need to start thinking about before you develop a lot of bad habits, working the ranges, changing up the sides, that sort of thing. He's a pleasure to work with.
Ivan came out with a spear and a backup weapon, and I said "Shit!". We did that about four times, running all over the place. I think I killed him twice, and he got me once with the backup weapon (good plan, I'd been in his shorts for a long time), and once with the end of the spear (ouch).
Sir Wulfbrand is so quiet most of the time, that I hardly know what to think of him. He seems very nice though. We talked for a bit about his knighting and the woods battle. When we fought, he seems very cautious and calm, sort of the ice-man approach. He wasn't all over me, but I would say I was lucky if I hit him once, and I wasn't getting his 'A' game, either.
I need to keep going.
Then I came back and did homework, yay!
