Mohegan Sun
Nov. 2nd, 2005 12:20 pmI took the train down to Stamford, as usual this morning. I actually worked for about half an hour, and then Chris and I walked over to the Weston to meet the bus. The bus was a chartered "limousine" bus, and arrived stocked (insufficiently, as it turned out) with water, champagne, orange juice, and Coor's Lite. Someone also had picked up donuts, bagels and coffee.
About 30 minutes into the trip, we stopped at a liquor store to picked up more beer. We got to Mohegan Sun two cases of beer later (there were twelve of us, and some where not drinking) at about noon. We were given instructions to meet at the Longhouse restaurant at 5:00 PM for dinner. We stopped to grab some lunch at the buffet (okay, but not really great), and then wandered around for about another hour looking at shops, slots, and tables.
I spent a *lot* of time wandering, but finally ended up in the casino's off-track-betting area, and watched one of my family's horses win at Delaware Park. I cooled my heels watching races on monster screens for probably about two hours.
Dinner was pretty good. Parts of it were excellent (the crab cakes, the clam chowder, and the cheesecake), other parts were acceptable (slightly overcooked filet mignon), while still other portions were inedible (mashed potatoes with the consistency of sand).
The concept was awesome. We had relatively bad seats (directly behind the performers), but we did get to watch a lot of the on-stage interaction between the musicians and between the musicians and the crew. However, we were in the first row on the balcony, so that was cool. Lenny sprained his ankle tripping on his own mic cord near the end of his set, and limped off the stage (and was carried the rest of the way out). Aerosmith was just awesome. They played from about 9:00 PM until just after 11:00 PM.
The bus ride home was relatively uneventful. There was some drinking, but it wasn't particularly inspired.
The train ride home was unbelievable. I was one of six people waiting at the train station headed towards New Haven, and two of the others were a Jewish couple in the midst of a nuclear-level disagreement. They met their son the train (a fledging NYC actor) who was repeating "I've ruined myself". I seriously considering getting off the train, but it would be an hour. The three of then all talked at once for nearly the entire 67 minute ride home.
But, now I'm home, and it is time to crash. I have no idea when I'm getting up tomorrow, but I'm going to have to decide soon. Maybe I will work from home tomorrow. If I wasn't supposed to go out to lunch with the boss, I probably would.

Date: 2005-11-02 05:50 pm (UTC)I am SOOOOOO jealous! I would've driven you for a concert ticket :) We could've snatched it from one of the drinking crew...

Date: 2005-11-02 10:28 pm (UTC)I wish you all could have been then, both to laugh at Lenny wussing out over a mildly sprained ankle, and to see Aerosmith touch out a grueling concert at the age of 90.

Date: 2005-11-02 10:33 pm (UTC)I even got up at 6:30 this morning, and then went back to bed until 9:00 AM. There was no way I was going to go back in to work on two and a half hours of sleep. The dogs were pleased, I think it helped break up there day.
Oh, and I did have to call Tetszu off of the raccoon under the shed. Luckily, he is so obedient; I would have been bitter if I had to run out there in bare feet to pull him off a racoon. He got lovin's.
